Nick Baldwin has updated The Observer's Book of commercial Vehicles (Frederick Warne & Co Ltd; 60p) from the 1971 edition, and a nice tittle book it is with some 250 pictures of individual vehicles from 10 countries. Besides load carriers and buses, these include specialized equipment such as fire appli ances and municipal vehicles. A section at the front gives important dates in the road transport world since 1769 (Nicholas Cugnot makes the first self-propelled vehicle for serious use) the International Letter Code, and some remarks on current designs and trends.
