Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Candidates for corporate membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will in future be required to furnish proof of academic attainment, professional training, experience and responsibility in a professional review. This review will replace the Institution's current Part III examination and will be introduced as a pilot scheme this autumn, while Part III is phased out However, until 1972, when the last Part III examination will be held, candidates holding mechanical engineering qualifications will be able to choose between taking Part III and the professional review.

The professional review will consist of a professional report and possibly an interview. For entry to the professional review candidates must have passed or been given exemption from the CEI paper on the "Engineer in Society".

Further details are given in a leaflet, "Pro

fessional Interviews—Notes for the Guidance of Candidates", obtainable from The Secretary, IMechE, 1 Birdcage Walk, London, SW1.
