This was announced by Sir William Black, the Corporation's chairman, on Wednesday. On Monday it was revealed that Mr. Stokes, who is also managing director of Leyland Motors Ltd. and Scammell Lorries Ltd. and sales director of the Corporation, had been chosen for the Institute of Marketing and Sales Management's first Marketing Award. Mr. R. E. Verguson, general sales manager of the industrial hydraulics division of The Plessey Company (UK) Ltd., has been elected chairman of the Association of Hydraulic Equipment Man ufacturers.

Mr. C. H. Bradbury, technical director of Simms Motor Units Ltd., has been elected president of the Diesel Engineers and Users' Association for .1963/64.

After 36 years' service with Dunlop, Mr. L. E. (Ted) Masheter, the company's group tyre technical consultant, retired at the end of October.

The Minister of Transport has appointed Mr. A. S. Coombs, who was a senior engineer in planning and programming at headquarters, as divisional road engineer, Wales and Monmouth division, in succession to Mr. J. J. Liptrott, who recently retired. Mr. F. J. S. Best, a senior engineer in trunk and classified roads branch at headquarters. has been appointed divisional road engineer, North Midland division— to take effect on November 11—in succession to Mr. A. D. Holland, who will become assistant chief engineer, bridges branch, onthe retirement of Mr. H. C. Adams on November 9.

Mr. P. Burgess, sales director of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., Preston, has retired after nearly 50 years with the company. Mr. Burgess joined Atkinson as an apprentice fitter and has served as works manager as well as sales and service director.

Mr. R. F. Godden, sales service manager, National Benzole, has joined the head office of Shell-Mex and B.P. as assistant manager of the purchasing department.

Mr. P. S. Henman, deputy chairman of the London Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Transport Development Group Ltd.. paid a two-day visit to Hamburg this week. Mr. Henman's visit was one of a series to Western European Chambers of Commerce which are being made by honorary officers of the London ,Chamber of Commerce to exchange views on current commercial problems, including transport. Mr. G. Cherry, general manager of Birkenhead Corporation transport department, is to retire next March after 12 years' service.

Mr. W. J. Amos, of Amos• and Andrews, Swansea. has been appointed area sales manager by Primrose Group Sales, of Blackburn, for the sale of all Primrose commercial vehicle assemblies in the South Wales, Hereford, Monmouth and Gloucester areas.

Mr. F. P. Parkes has been appointed works director of Small and Parkes Ltd. Mr. P. Worledge has been appointed sales director of Kismet Ltd. and has resigned from the Small and Parkes board. Mr. H. E. Martin-Leake has resigned his works directorship of Kismet Ltd. to take up a new post with the parent company, Cape Asbestos Co. Ltd. Mr. H. Elliott is the new works director of Kismet.

Three new directors have been appointed to the main board of S. Smith and Sons (England) Ltd.—Mr. Richard G. Cave, 43, managing director of Smiths motor accessory division; Mr. James A. Blair, 38, company secretary, and Mr. Alastair M. Majendie, 43.

Mr. J. P. Orchard, sales promotion and advertising officer in the North Western division of Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd., has been appointed advertising manager, National Benzoic Co. Mr. Orchard succeeds Mr. P. Harper who has been appointed assistant manager in the sales promotion and advertising department of Shell-Mex and B.P.

Mr. T. Willis, previously assistant depot manager of Kerry's (Great Britain) Ltd., at Sheffield, has been appointed depot manager at Leeds. Mr. P. Thomas, previously assistant depot manager at Oxford, has been appointed depot manager at Birmingham.
