London Ban: On Monday a London busmen's delegate conference supported, by 72 votes to 3, the central bus committee's recommendation not to lift the proposed total ban on overtime, first agreed last week. The ban came into effect on Wednesday and was expected to keep one bus in seven off the roads and cut 120,000 route miles from the week-day scheduled mileage of 780,000a 15 per cent cut. London Transport's immediate reaction was to call off th meeting fixed for today (Friday) to discuss the men's pay, hours and holidays claim. The 14.13., writes our industrial correspondent, pointed out that negotiations could not usefully take place while an attempt was being made to bring pressure on the Board, The busmen maintain they are not breaking any agreement by refusing to work overtime which, they say, is purely voluntary; refusal to negotiate would, they maintain, be a breach of agreement an behalf of the L.T.B. The men say the ban is intended to "compel the L.T.B. to face up to she continued grave labour shortage." 1964 Coach Rally: The Vational Coach Rally for 1964 will be held in Blackpool on Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5. Clyde Coast Commiltee Formed: It is hoped that operators of buses and steamers, the A.A. and R.A.C. will join the committee recently formed in Glasgow at a meeting of senior members of the Scottish Tourist Board and provosts and town clerks of nine major Clyde local authorities. The committee's aims arc to promote tourist interest in the Firth's resorts.
