HASTINGS SYSTEM FOR MAIDSTONE CO.?

IT is reported that a provisional agree

ment has been reached for the sale to Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., of Hastings and District Electric Tramways Co.'s holding of the complete share capital of the Hastings Tramways Co. It is stated that, if the proposal be approved, the Maidstone company will pay £65,000 in cash and issue 16,620 of its fully paid ordinary shares to the vendor, and will repay £93,000 owing by the tramways concern on loan account.

DEFENCE FUND TO CONTEST RIBBLE APPLICATION.

ADEFENCE fund for independent operators is being opened in Larks, so that opposition can be raised against the project of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., to issue tourist tickets at 15s. each. Mr. T. H. Halsall, 39, Hoghton Street, Southport, is secretary, and Mr. G. Wolstenhohne, treasurer. Members of various organizations are interested, and the _ following committee has been formed:—Miss Bridges, and Messrs, H. H. Lapsley, T. Lawrenson, Norrison Stansfield, H. Hardman and J. S. Howarth.

The opposition is calculated to cost £100. and the fund organizers are engaging Mr. W. McKeag, M.P., the well-known solicitor.

REVIEW OF YORKSHIRE EXCURSION FARES.

ASURVEY of excursion-and-tour fares in the Yorkshire Area is being made by operators themselves, following whkh proposals will be submitted to the Yorkshire Regional Fares Committee and, ultimately, to the Commissioners. It is anticipated that any change proposed will be in a downward direction.

When certain Yorkshire operators applied for sanction to reduce a number of fares, the Commissioners consulted the Fares Committee, which considered that the whole position with regard to fares for excursions and tours run by operators in the area should be reviewed. In the first instance, members of the various associations are being consulted.
