Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AFEW weeks ago we intimated in our DeWS Columns that the International Harvester Co. of Great Britain, Ltd_, Harvester House, 259, City Bead, London, EJC., was about to introduce to the British market a new International chassis built to carry 3-33-ton loads. It is known as Model 63, and details of its design are noW.available.

The design of the chassis is quite straightforward and based on ideas which have proved their value under service conditions. A.. four-eylindered engine is used for motive pur

poses. its bore being 4i ins, and its Stroke ri ins. It is sturdily built, clean in appearance and develops 29.6 h.p. at 1,000 r.p.m. It is carried in the main chassis frame at three points. - In conformity with the modern trend of engine design, overhead-valve gear is employed, the whole of the mechanism

being enclosed. For luhricatir purposes the forced-feed system is favoured, a gear-driven pump forcing oil to th,e melin bearings and to troughs in the crankcase into which the lower ends of the connecting rods dip. A high-tension magneto is used for ignition, and it is equipped with a•n impulse starter, thus ensuring easy starting in the coldest of weather.

In view of the powerful character of the engine, it has been found practicable to govern it down and so prevent any undue stress on the working parts owing to excessive speeding when in the lower gears.

The engine power is conveyed through a dry-plate multiple

disc clutch to a four-speed-and-reverse gearbox, the ratio of engine to rear wheels being 9 to 1 in fourth gear, 15.7 to 1 in third gear, 29.2 to 1 in second gear and 53 to 1 in first gear. An open propeller Rhaft connects gearbox and back axle, the latter being of the dual type, in which a primary reduction is effected by spiral bevels and a final reduction by internal gears.

So far as braking is concerned, the foot brake takes effect on drumsof large size in the rear wheels, the shoes being of the internal-expanding type. There is also a brake of the external-contracting pattern on the forward end of the propeller shalt, this being actuated by lever.

An interesting feature of the suspension system—which, in the main, is by semi-elliptic laminated springs--is the use of auxiliary quarter-elliptics at the rear, these only coming into action when the maximum load for which the chassis is designed is being carried. This arrangement enables the main spring assemblies to be of lighter construction.

The new Chassis has a wheelbase of 13 ft. 9 ins., which permits a long body to be carried Without -excessive overhang. The overall length is 19 ft. 11 ins. The mew model is being sold in this country at 1595.
