Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

In reply to the letter "Too Pricey A Show" (CM17-23 April) I would make the following observations. "Condensing" the three shows did not happen: they were incorporated into one event which is now the second-largest show in Europe (second to Hanover) and far, far larger than the original shows put together.

As far as the venue is concerned, it would be ideal if we could find another centre to compete with the NEC in terms of price but sadly this is not possible. The NEC is by far and away the best venue in the UK, centrally-located and with good road, rail and air links— something even Hanover cannot boast.

The first new show for the SMMT was held at the Royal Showground, which was okay once we had swept the straw off the floor and become immune to the smell of the last occupants—who happened to be pigs! Harrogate has its own charm, but is no way big enough to host the CV show as it now is.

As far as bi-annual against an annual show is concerned, many small exhibitors (RSG included) enjoy the marketing buzz that an annual event causes; exhibitors seem to be voting with their feet, and interest in next year's show is already at record levels. Attendance at this year's show was up on the last one—which presumably indicates that our customers also like it.
