• After the sliding bogie skeletal, now comes Dennison Trailer's sliding bogie tipper, designed to out-manoeuvre conventional eight-loggers, while offering payloads of up to 30 tonnes when running at the 44-tonne top weight limit.

Dennisonsays its air-suspended tri-axle tipper is the first sliding bogie design to be developed in either the UK or Irish markets, where it has undergone extensive operational trials. It is aimed specifically at eight-wheeler operators looking for increased artic payloads and vehicle utilisation.

Managing director James Dennison says: "With its potential for between 29 to 50 tonnes payloads at 44 tonnes GCW, the sliding bogie tipper trailer could extend a traditional eight-wheeler operator's tipping tonnage by as much as 50%, and still be able to get onto the same sites as a fouraxle 32-tonner."

For normal on-road operation, the chassis runs fully extended, giving the tipper an overall length of 9.25m and providing a 44-tonne legally compliant wheelbase of 8.20m. However, closing the trailer for tipping gives it a significantly shorter wheelbase of 6.99m. "in the closed/tipping position, the rear overhang is suitable for use with a Barber Greene/law Knox asphalt paving machine," says Dennison. "Stability when tipping is also aided by tipping-hinge bar centres located at a width of 1.35m." Chassis locking pins, operated via the cab, control the sliding bogie operation.

Dennison is claiming a low kerbweigirt for its unusual tipper. At this week's SED show, it is displaying a sliding bogie model quoted at 6,5404, equipped with an insulated aluminium body plus drum-braked and air-suspended Mentor 1M9000 axles.

The show trailer's 7.32m-long tapered body allows for easier lead discharge and has a Hyva FC183 front ram with the wet kit mounted on the tractor Landing legs are from Jost's 201 modular system.

Customers can also specify Edbro tipping gear along with on-board weighing and sheeting options. Cost for the sliding bogie trailer with a similar specification to the SED version is around E25,500.
