ASELF-CONTAINED, fully automatic system of discharging liquid carbon dioxide for temperature control of loads in transit has been developed by the Distillers Co. Ltd. and AngloContinental Container Services. It will be exhibited next week at the Research, Production and Development Exhibition at Olympia, London (May 4-9).
Developed initially for use by AngloContinental in controlling the temperature of perishable cargoes in containers on long hauls, the system is to be marketed by The Distillers Co. It consists of a Dischil unit comprising liquid carbon dioxide in cylinders, a temperature-sensing element and a calibrated stainless steel discharge nozzle, through which blasts of CO, are released to give rapid initial cooling and subsequent control of temperature to fine limits.
The atmosphere produced is claimed to be inert, bacteriostatic and dry.
