APROPOSAL by Newcastle-on-Tyne Housing Management Committee that a separate haulage department be set up has been rejected by the council. It was stated that the operation of ancillary transport would save £320 a year compared with hiring, but opponents of the plan contended that there was no guarantee that the scheme would be economic.
