ALTHOUGH there are many new models at the Amsterdam Commercial Motor Show, which closes tomorrow, far greater publicity was
given at the opening to the Bedford 7-ton oil-engined chassis than to others. Attention was drawn to it in the local daily Press and in a 10-minute radio review of the Exhibition, The introduction of the Bedford S.L.C.O, chassis, as it is termed, was a last-minute decision and immediately
before the public were admitted to the Show, the radiator was removed to reveal the Perkins R6V oil engine.
General Motors Continental N.V., who are responsible for the exhibition of the Bedford vehicles, were unable to quote a list price, but potential buyers were informed that delivery of production models was expected in October or November.
The R6V engine is also installed in two new D.A.F. chassis, the Seddon 8-tonner and Dodge 7-tonner. The new
D.A.F. articulated tractor having this unit is equipped with a compressor and air-pressure braking system. The other D.A.E model is a long-wheelbase coach or bus chassis.
Scania Vabis are showing a new version of the L 40 series, equipped for a gross vehicle weight of 11 tons and having a revised braking system and four-cylindered 100 b.h.p. directinjection engine.
The Scania Vabis four-cylindered oil engine, but with shorter stroke and developing 90 b.h.p., is now available in Holland for use in Diamond T articulated tractors.
Another new Dutch product is a 50seat integral-construction coach made by Leyland (Holland) in conjunction with Verheul, A left-hand-drive Leyland Tiger Cub chassis is also exhibited.
A Seddon-van-Twist bus with a Perkins P6 engine mounted almost below floor level, and having a forward entrance, is also shown.
