Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE have often advocated in our columns the need for filtering the air which passes into a running engine via the carburetter, so there is no need, in this instance, to explain at any great length the benefits which should be derived from fitting the Yokes-Protectomotor air .filter to a vehicle.

As will be seen from the drawing which appears on this page the device in question, which is marketed by C. G. Yokes and Co., 95, Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London, S.W.15, is designed to be specially compact, whilst, in spite of this, a large area of porous felt-like material is provided for the efficient cleansing of the incoming air as it passes on its way to the carburetter— this area being 1,700 sq. ins, in the case of a particularly large model of the fitment.

The efficiency of the apparatus, the standard commercial model of which sells at 14 15s., can be judged by observing the amount of foreign matter which collects on the gauze-supported filtering medium in the course of but a few weeks' steady service. This would otherwise pass into the engine and, be sides causing undue wear and tear, would form hard carbon deposit.

The needs of commercial-vehicle operators are particularly well catered for by this concern, and to this end the Vokes-Folberth automatic windscreen wiper has been produced in a special form which is expressly suited to commercial work. The device is most strongly constructed, and is operated by engine suction, whilst amongst features claimed for it are silent and efficient operation throughout the whole range of throttle openings, and the easy manner in which the blade and sweep of the device can be adjusted to meet individual requirements. It sells at £1 7s. 6d.

C. G. Yokes and Co. also markets the Byrne-Kingston oil aerator and filter, which can be easily fitted to the oilcirculation system of a vehicle. This apparatus, which is an entirely self-contained unit and whieh sells at £4 108., is claimed to prevent the dilution of the oil by means of its aerating effect, and to remove from the lubricating oil, by filtration, abrasives and other foreign matter in, the form of sludge.
