• Panasonic has introduced a portable kit for the E-Series cellular mobile phone to upgrade the fixed unit into a transportable model. Using the standard lAh battery, it will provide up to 30 minutes' talk time in Class 2 mode, or 60 minutes on Class 4.

Options include a 1.8Ah battery giving up to 20 hours on stand-by; a 240v AC/12VDC converter allowing the phone to be powered from the mains; a battery charger, carrying case and shoulder strap.

The kit costs 2145 and the E-Series phone retails at 2575 (both ex-VAT).

LIGHTWEIGHT WINCH FOR HEAVY JOBS • A 1.7-tonne capacity handportable winch is to be distributed in the UK by Newline Plant Sales.

The West-German-made PW 17 has a capstan-type winch drum, internal dual ratio planetary reduction gearing and weighs 17kg. A 3.7kW chainsaw motor, 60m of cable and a cable storage basket brings the operating weight to 40kg.
