• YORK is restructuring its national support operation in order to cater for servicing operators' trailers. The eight regional centres formerly known as York Transport Engineering will now be known as York Service.
Trailer construction, including one-off specials, will be consolidated in York's main manufacturing plants. The regional centres will he dedicated to the after sales back-up of the York product and refurbishment, conversions and servicing of all trailer makes. Tractive unit tag-axle conversions will continue to be offered at the regional centres. John Cox, York Service managing director, says that the adoption of this new name reflects "the change in our base content of business".
A new contract maintenance scheme — Transplan — aimed primarily at trailers has also been set up. This provides set-price maintenance for up to five years. Ancillaries like tail-lifts and tipping gear can be included as can Dip testing and record keeping.
York Service will also cater for tractive unit maintenance. "We will charge the going rate for tractive unit work and a lesser one for time spent on the trailer," says Cox. Out of hours, weekend and on-site servicing is available for contracted and occasional customers. Twenty-four hour breakdown cover is already provided from regional centres and across Europe for those vehi
cies under warranty or contract.
All eight regional centres have rolling roads installed and in the lead up to the launch an additional 30 fitters have been recruited and £250,000 spent pre
paring the workshops. The centres are located at Avonmouth, Birmingham, Corby, Dagenham, Glasgow, Leeds, Peterborough and Warrington. For more information circle Turbo 61.
