THE AUCTIONING of commercial vehicles and cars is now covered by a new code of practice among the 34 member companies of the Society of Motor Auctions.

A conciliation and arbitration service is provided with the help of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers, and the Institute of Automotive Engineers and Assessors.
But the main purpose of the code, which replaces one with less sharp teeth, is to avoid disputes.
The society's members last year had a total sales revenue of S:458 million and sold 3.5 million vehicles from a total of some 50 sites.
