WITH reference to the proposed takeover of the Land Rover/Leyland Trucks by General Motors, this seems yet another retreat by the British motor industry.
I cannot believe the negative attitude which is so common in this debate. After years of factory closures and job losses to put the truck division back on its feet, we will hand over the Land Rover arid T45 range on a plate to GM.
Looking to the future, although still a burden on the taxpayer, in the long term the whole group should break even and will then he under American control.
