been knocked off its perch as market leader in the UK onetonne pickup sector — a position it has held since it was introduced back in 1982.
In January. the number one Spot went to the Peugeot 504 which is the only Europeanbuilt model currently competing in the one-tonne market.
Peugeot Talbot sold 253 of its 504 models, compared with only 242 P100s.
Sales of the South African built P100 have been declining steadily as demand for diesel pickups has grown; the I' 1(X) is only available with the 1.6-litre petrol engine.
Over 90 per cent of all 504s are now sold with the 2.3litre diesel engine.
A replacement for the P100 is unlikely to arrive in the UK for at least two years, according to Ford, and this may leave a gap before a new model is introduced.
Any successor to the P100
will -be looked at in the context of wider sales volumes and not just in terms of the British market".
Peugeot expects to offer a GL version of the 504 in the summer.
Sales of Peugeot Talbot light commercials continue to rise. In January, it sold a record 1,135 vehicles, giving the company a 6.6 per cent share in the UK light commercial vehicle market up to 3.5 tonnes GVW.
