A CUMBRIAN haulier who was allowed to use his yard for 17 years because of a council slip-up has lost his fight to stay.
Gerry Renton — whose business handles newspaper haulage as well as general freight — took over the former petrol depot in Petteril "Ferrace, Carlisle, in 1968.
He was granted a temporary licence by the city council . But because of a hureaucractic error wits never pressed to seek full planning approval.
Following complaints from residents, the haulier was given two years to find an alternative site by Carlisle City Council.
Now Mr Renton has heard his appeal to the Department of the Environment has been rejected.
