THE EXPLOSION in fuel prices which followed last year's OPEC decisions hit Britain's commercial transport firms harder than elsewhere in the EEC, according to figures published this month by the European Commission.
Apart from Denmark, diesel prices in Britain rose faster last year than in any of the other eight member countries AT THE OPENING of the Cambridge western by-pass last week, Transport Minister Norman Fowler outlined three main priorities for road spending.
He said we must get industrial routes finished, above all the M25 as well as networks to the major ports.
The quality of life must be Improved for people who now live on major routes, and road maintenance should be increased.
