SAND TIPPERS FOR SHEFFIELD: One of Britain's biggest producers of foundry moulding sand, Genefax Transport Ltd., of Sheffield, a subsidiary of General Refractories Ltd., has ordered five Leyland Comets, three Albion Super Reivers and two Leyland Octopus models. They will all have Pilot tipping gear and special alloy bodies to carry sand or palletized loads of furnace bricks.
A.E.C,s FOR DEVON: A total of 25 A.E.C. buses and coaches has recently been ordered by the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co. Ltd. 01 13 Reliance 470 singledeckers, eight will have Harrington 41-seat coachwoi-k measuring 31 ft. 5 in, long and 7 ft. 6 in, wide, and the remaining five will have Willowbrook bodies also seating 41 but of 30-ft. by 8-ft. dimensions. Four Reliance 590 models are to have Marshall 53-seat,
36-ft. by 8-ft. bodies. The remaining eight vehicles are Regent Mark V models for which the order for Willowbrook bodies was announced in "The Commercial Motor" of January 4. Forward-entrance 70-seaters, they are to operate in the Torbay and Newton Abbot areas.
LONGER MODELS WANTED: Halifax Passenger Transport Department has changed its recent order for eight 27-ft.-long Leyland Titan PD2.37 double-deck buses to one calling for eight 30-ft.-long Titan PD3.4 models.
TIMBER BY ALBION : The Hull timber merchant, Horsley Smith and Co. Ltd., has ordered three Albions, a Claymore 5-ton truck for local deliveries, and a Chieftain 7-former and a Clydesdale 9-tonner for deliveries in Yorkshire and the Midlands. KOWLOON AND PERTH REPEATS: The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. has ordered a further 40 A.E.C. Regent Mark V special long-wheelbase chassis of similar design to the 30 supplied last year. To be fitted with 94-seat double-decker bodies with accommodation for a further 21 standing passengers, they will have A.E.C. AV690 engines, Monocontrol transmission and twin-circuit air brakes. The Metropolitan (Perth) Passenger Transport Trust has ordered another 30 A.E.C. Royal Mark VI single-decker chassis with AH590 engines and Monocontrol transmission.
COMETS ABROAD AND AT HOME: Four more Leyland Comet haulage chassis have been ordered by the South India Flour Mills Ltd., Madras, and five Comet haulage chassis have been ordered for the Conservator of Forests, Poona, Castle Bros. (Hauliers) Ltd.. of Leeds, has ordered six Leyland Super Comet tractors and six Scam mell Fourtrak semi-trailers.
YORK AXLES FOR M.A.N.: Of 150 York third-axle conversion sets ordered during the past month, 80 are for the German M.A.N. concern. Recent orders for York semitrailers include one of 15 W2A platform 12-ton-capacity models for Dispatch Motor Co. Ltd., six Teamster EP20 models for T. W. Walker Ltd., of Stockton, and three Teamster 40-ft, EP17 models for British Road Services.
THIRTY MORE ORDERED: Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service has placed a repeat order with Ashok Leyland Ltd. for 30 Leyland Comet bus chassis. They will have locally built 44-seat light-alloy bodies.
