THEspotlight was again turned on the question of truth in travel tours brochures at a resumed hearing in Leeds on Wednesday in which the Yorkshire Pool operators applied for a licence for a Sunday express service from the West Riding to Derby Airport.
If granted, the express services will be for the clients of Gaytours of Blackpool who have previously travelled on service coaches from the North to Victoria Coach Station, London, and then on to Southend Airport by Eastern National coach for a flight to Jersey.
Wallace Arnold Tours and Sheffield United Tours opposed the application and at a previous hearing, Mr. F. S. Marshall. for Wallace Arnold, criticized the wording of the Gaytours brochure which said: "We commence our holiday in our tour coach from your home . town:' when people from Yorkshire were actually travelling on an operator's regular express service.
Mr. Marshall continued this point on Wednesday when he examined Mr. Leslie Jackson, deputy manager of Comptons Northern Travel Bureau, Bradford.
Mr. Marshall said that if prospective clients accepted the statement in the Gaytours brochure they must be " docile customers " even if the fact of travelling on an ordinary service had been explained to them at the time of booking, as Mr. Jackson said it had.
The case is being continued.
