We publish on this page a picture of a new type of fire-fighter, which has recently been placed in service by the London Fire Brigade ; it differs materially from the class of machine already in service. The basis of the vehicle is a standard Dennis 80 b.h.p. chassis. The pump is at the rear, and adjoining it are controls for the throttle and air pump respectively, the control for the main pump being in the driver's
cab. The bodywork was built by Dennis Brothers, Ltd., to the design of Major Morris, chief officer of the I.C.C. Fire Brigade. It is of the totally enclosed type, with two transverse seats for use by the personnel. The space behind the second seat is used for accommodating hose and other eqaipment. Five sets of self-contained breathing apparatus are carried, each set being sufficient to supply a fireman
for one hour. A 40-ft, telescopic ladder is carried on the roof, access to it being obtained by two steps at the rear. Two longitudinal compartments running below the floor level are used for housing suctiOn hose.
Expert Bodybuilder Required.
A foreman bodybuilder is required for Egypt. He must be thoroughly conversant with the building of bus bodies, capable of taking charge of a bodybuilding shop and of working out constructional details of new bodies, a good organizer and controller. It would be an advantage if he possessed a working knowledge of spray painting and body finishing. He should preferably be single and of temperate habits, and have had at least six years' experience, after apprenticeship, with a good firm of bodybuilders.
The Egyptian Government will be satisfied with a one-year's agreement renewable annually, but the company concerned would be prepared to offer a contract for three years with one month's annual leave with pay, which could be accumulated.
The British Passport Department will require a letter of guarantee that the selected applicant will be repatriated at the company's expense.
Letters should be addressed "Egypt," care of the Editor.
