IN CONNECTION' with our. description of the new BlaCkpool motor Coach station, the following letter is of importance :— • Sit,—My reason for writing is that the Blackpool motor park scheme has been given so much publicity in the local papers, the dailies, and, now by The aanfamerCial Motor that I think it is about time someone found a plane in Which to refer to the troubles of the local char-it-banns owner, who has been refused a licence to ply for hire on the streets, and must only load at his own garage. The hackney .carriagelousiness has slowly but surely been screwed dawn for the Past 36 years, the local council, the tradesmen's association, the places' of amusement having self-inte-rest in so doing. That being so, they are only too anxious to make provision for the incoming traffic, and then make the volume of the char-k-bancs traffic an excuse to put the local man off the :streets, as there is no room for him to
610 . stand and to ply for hire, -whilst the promenade is holy ground forbidden to chars-k-bancs.
The outcome of this is that the business will go to one or two large Companies and owners, and the small man, whose garage is in the back blacks, will have to sell out. I have-recently heard that 50 machines will have to be sold, and some of them are owned by old hackney carriage proprietors, of '60 years' standing who have taken up Motors. I have one in mind who had driven in BIackp.00l for 44 years, and he is ruined, as his chars=h-bancia represent all his life's savings. My own case is that my stand is -&o little good I did not work it last year. I kej3t to long-distance tours. My view of the future is. that, as soon as railways Introduce the 5s. day excursion the day trip to Blackpool is doomed, and no sane man would try to compete with railway excursion fares, and they will be here sooner than most people expect —Yours faith fully, BLACKPOOL 'OWNER,
