Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Trafficmaster claims that its new fixed-cost fleet management system will result in reduced vehicle maintenance, servicing, fuel expenditure and mobile phone bills. The new system combines elements of vehicle tracking, routeing, traffic monitoring and communications. The Fleetstar package includes a highspec office PC/printer with Windows-based tracking and vehicle routeing software, GSM transceiver and text messaging facility, and Trafficmaster's established Oracle voice-based traffic information system for the vehicle-cab.

Cost is fixed from 129.99 per vehicle per month, rising to /50 per month, according to Peter Johnson, director of European strategy at Trafficmaster. The exact price will depend on volume, length of contract and the amount of customisation required. There is also a L100/month rental fee for the office computer equipment, but no other costs are involved—airtime, Oracle subscription, mapping licence fee, system maintenance and mapping or software upgrades are all included.

Key features include UK-wide street level mapping, varied reporting options, historical and live vehicle tracking and live traffic information on 8,000 miles of the UK's motorway and trunk roads.

Johnson says that while individual routeing or tracking systems may be richer in features, Fleetstar offers good functionality. "What we've built in is probably 90% of the features most people will need. But if our customers bowl us over with demands for other features, they will get them," he says.
