TOWNSEND Thoresen is spending .00m in the next year to double its freight carrying capacity on four cross-Channel ships.
To meet demand for more freight space on the DoverZeebrugge route, the two 5,000-ton ships, Free Enterprise VI and Free Enterprise VII, are being converted to double their carrying capacity to 60 lorries.
The ships are being enlarged or "jumboised" by having a second full length drive-through vehicle deck added.
hi addition the Viking Venturer and Viking Valiant, which currently operate on the Portsmouth to Le Havre and Cherbourg routes, are to be similarly converted in early 1986.
