U-shape 7-ton tipper, designed by Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., will go into production in the next few days.. It is of all-steel, all-welded construction, with an extra-strong stabilizer, the square shape simplifying the packing of angular loads such as bricks and blocks.
The petrol version has a taxation weight .of 3 tons 51 cwt. and costs £1,150 plus £197 19s. lid, purchase tax. The oil-engined model has a taxation weight of 3 tons 91 cwt, and costs £1,490 plus £282 I9s. Ild, purchase tax.
Capacity of the body is 6 Cu. yd., similar to that of the U-shaped body, with 12-gauge steel sides, and 10:gauge steel floor. Along the sides and across the tailboard are 14-gauge stiffening buttresses.
The new tailboard is hinged 6 in. higher than the body sides, and 2 in. forward from the rear. This means that it falls wide open and has a selfclosing tendency.
At the off-side rear is a handle release which lies sufficiently far forward to remove any risk of the driver perching on the rims of crumbling tip brinks to operate it. A remote control which can be operated from the cab, is optional, and costs an extra £2 10s.
The new body is 21 in. shallower than the U type, which assists shovel filling and gives better visibility when reversing. It is 9 in. longer so that more weight comes on the rear axle, and this assists rear-wheel adhesion. The load can also be tipped farther away from the rear wheels, which helps to prevent spill when emptying into riddles.
There are three windows in the back of the forwardcontrol cab.
Weston-type tipping gear is used. The extra-strong stabilizer has tubular side members instead of channel-section members-, and the inside cruciform members are boxed-in on the lower half.
