• Production of the ERE EC range of rigids has started. iwo months after the tractive units were launched. The 4x2, 6x4 and 8x4 rigids will be phased into production between now and September, replacing the 8-series rigids model for model.
EC three-axle and four-axle models will be designed for operation at 26 tonnes and 32 lollies GVW respectively. Marke:ing director Rod England rep arts strong demand for 25 and 31tonne chassis to take advantage of reduced VED rates.
The Steyr-cabbed ES models will continue as before, with a minor facelift scheduled for September. The cab may be replaced in the longer term but chairman Peter Foden saw: It is not viable to build a niche cat) inhouse."
EC rigids will include 4-x2 and
6x4 drawbars. which will go into production at the same time as the multi-wheelers. Driveline options will include engines from Cummins and Perkins with transmissions from Eaton and ZF and drive axles from Rockwell. In common with EC tractive units, the rigids will feature new chassis designs. The biggest change is a move to waisted frames which will share the tractors' 7mm-section high-tensile steel construction.
