INCREASED expenditure cm London's public transpor network and higher fares, ar likely in the first year of th new Tory Greater Londoi Council.
GLC planning and corn munications committee chair man Shelagh Roberts say that for the council to keel within its £875 million budge over the next five years wil mean cuts of around 12 pe cent in the next 12 months.
London Transport has sail that if increased expenditur had to be met througl increased fares, there woul have to be five per cent rise over and above the inflatio rate this year.
The likely extra figure i thought to be around f12 million.

Miss Roberts described th current budget as "barel enough to keep the existin system ticking over.
"The GLC is determined t achieve a deficit reductio mainly through increase efficiency," she said. Th GLC has already appealed t Transport Minister Williat Rodgers to underwrite it transport losses.
