ERICA'S Interstate Commerce Commis
sion has ordered an investigation to determine if seat belts for passengers should be made compulsory on all inter-State buses. This action was influenced by the high number of deaths and serious injuries from bus accidents—particularly in 1965.
The Commission has requested all interState bus operators to suggest the type of seat belts which might he required. It also issued proposed regulations which would make it compulsory for all buses made after December 31 next to be equipped with seat belts. They also include a suggested timetable for equipping older buses with seat belts.
