Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Perkins 4.108 four-cylinder engine is now listed by Ford as the optional diesel power unit in Transit 12, 17 and 22 cwt. models instead of the Perkins 4.99. Because of its higher output, the 4.108 is also offered as an option in the Transit 25 cwt.; until now the three higher-capacity Transits-25, 30 and 35 cwt.—have been available with petrol engines only.

Comparing the Perkins 4.108 and 4.99, the former has a capacity of 107.4 Cu. in. as against 99 Cu. in. Maximum net output of the unit, as used by Ford, is increased from 40.7 b.h.p. at 3,600 r.p.m. to 49 b.h.p. at 4,000 r.p.m. and maximum net torque goes up from 71.5 lb. ft at 2,250 r.p.m. to 77.5 lb. ft. at 2.100 r.p.m.

Use of the 4.108 results in an increase in the calculated maximum speed of about 4 m.p.h. and gradient ability is also improved.
