Trailers and Tipping uears.
The most i:nteresting exhibit on this stand is undoubtedly the two-wheel trailer which is specially designed for use with an agricultural-type tractor, particularly the Fordson, and which is adaptable for alternative haulage by horses. The example shown is a tipping wagon, and is equipped with the Beefs patent drawbar attachment and third (castor) wheel. When in use, the load distribution is such that a considerable portion of it is supported by the drawbar, the object of this arrangement being to improve the tractive. adhesion possessed by the tractor. To facilitate coupling to, and detachment from, the tractor, use is made of the tipping gear, in ingenious combinations with a wooden prop, temporarily to relieve the drawbar of its load.
The drawbar itself incorporates a spring, to absorb any excessive shocks, and the connection between tractor and trailer is a universal joint, taking the form of a ball and socket, the former being on the drawbar and the latter on the tractor.
