Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Two steam rollers (one an 8-tonner, the other a 10), a steam tractor, and a traction engine, are the exhibits on this stand, which are of interest to readers of The Commercial Motor. One of the rollers, the larger, is equipped with a three-tine Allen scarifier. Both have compound engines, with piston valves, which this company believe to be more efficient than slide valves. The forepart of the boiler is flanged, and con. nected by a machined joint to the barrel. This arrangement facilitates conversion to a haulage engine and vice versa,

besides enabling the smoke box to be replaced at any time without involi.ing heavy expenditure. The tractor also embodies a compound engine, with radial valve gear. Whas provision for two speeds, of 21 and 5 M.p.h. respectively.

The traAion engine is a single-cylinder of 7
