The Mercedes Benz flagship is now in its third incarnation, having revealed the latest facelift at the 2008 NEC show. Buyers can choose from either a car transporter, low roof, high roof or Megaspace cabs in ascending order of interior space. The flat-floored latter is the one to have if only because of its good residuals the interior comparing favourably to Oaf's 105XF,
M-B's Powershift automated transmission is a great improvement on previous installations, and really makes this model a fleet flagship contender.
Top-of-the-range models have been curiously underrated, despite a high-quality finish and generous equipment levels. A true professional driver's truck is likely to be even better when the new HOER straight-six engines become available around 2010.
Until then, the 600hp V8 engine is among the most powerful on the market, although the 480hp V6 offers plenty of power for non-STGO operations, and is probably more economically justified.
