Light van market is fragmenting into a series of niche products. John Lewis reports

Berlingo and its 'mini-Sever stable-mates have, in their turn. got bigger and now offer more choice than their predecessors -two load lengths rather than one.
As a consequence, they are starting to nibble away at larger models. How many customers who might otherwise have bought a shortwheelbase Citroen Dispatch will now opt for the bigger version of the Berlingo, instead? Whatever they choose.they will be looking for fuel economy. No matter what happens to the price of a barrel of oil, diesel looks set to stay pricey in the UK over the coming months to feed the Government's massive tax take.
And it looks like highly efficient diesels will continue to dominate the van market for a long time to come...
