It looks odd, rather like a dodoem car with attitude, and its lightweight feel does nothing to inspire confidence, nor does the limited performance offered by its sub-1.0-litre diesel engine.
The French-built Aixam Mega has a lot more going for it than might appear to be the case at first sight. Its plastic body and alloy chassis mean that it is virtually rot-proof, and should last forever, while its compact dimensions make parking a doddle.
The cab interior is basic, but you don't buy a Mega if you set store by top-notch ride and handling. On the other hand, the electric version costs pennies per mile to run, and the absence of exhaust fumes means you're exempt from London's congestion charge.
What's more, you get the use of a 3.0m3 cargo area and a payload capacity in excess of 400kg, depending on the version. Mega is produced in pick-up, dropside and chassis cab guises. too.
