For some, the Far Eastern cab-over-engine arrangement will always be at the cost of interior space, but the Canter has taken great strides in improving its occupant comfort with an enhanced driving position and seating. And it hasn't stopped there. With better soundproofing. a new engine and slicker gear change, there's a user-friendliness to this Mitsubishi that was lacking in previous generations.
Daimler's long-term investment has helped with development of the Japanese-inspired but Portuguese-built range, and it shows. Being sold through the Mercedes-Benz truck network means it gives a Daimler a double shot at the 7.5-tonne market, with the manoeuvrable and lighter-thanaverage Canter appealing to those who find the Atego a little bit too heavy.
