An unabashed no-frills workhorse. NP300 is the pickup to pick up if you are not too bothered about your image.
Off-road, it is a star, happily ploughing along muddy farm tracks and bouncing across construction sites. On conventional highways, its performance is less impressive.
While it is reasonably manoeuvrable and offers a precise gear change, it is slow away from rest, lacks mid-range wallop and suffers from woolly steering.
The cab interior is dominated by a three-man bench seat that has to be slid forward in its entirety for the driver to reach the pedals. There is virtually no leg room for the middle passenger, who is held in place solely by a lap strap and is not protected by a head rest.
At least the cargo area is sensibly proportioned, though.
