Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

While permanent four-wheel-drive may do its fuel economy no favours. Freelander is a real pleasure to drive. It sticks to the road like glue, nonchalantly brushes off crosswinds, and its precise six-speed gearbox allows you to get the most out of an engine with ample grunt.

The steering may not be to everybody's taste, however. It is quick and accurate, but its strong self-centring can catch some drivers unawares.

On the rough stuff, Freelander is an astonishingly good performer, happily tackling terrain that would make many off-roaders struggle.

What is true of Freelander is also true of Discovery only more so. Packed full of useful kit, it is as at home on the motorway as it is playing in the mud, but like Freelander, fuel economy is not its strong point.
