Insofar as it is possible to say that a light commercial can be said to enjoy a cult statusand assuming you exclude Ford's Transit -then Vauxhall's Astravan can claim that accolade.
That is despite the fact, that at 1. 6m3, the load area is not all that impressive for a van of its size, and with a maximum 650kg, its payload capacity could be that much better.
The truth is that none of that will matter one jot to the dyed-in-thewool Astravan fan. What counts here is driving pleasure, and this is a van that dishes this out by the bucketload.
For your money, you get pin-sharp handling, steering that is remarkably responsive, a precise gear change, and absolutely bag loads of performance.
OK, the 1.3-litre will struggle a bit, but rival drivers will be hard pressed to keep pace with its stable-mates.
Of course, Astravan will hardly be lacking in bling if you opt for the Sportive variant. However, if that's a bit too much aesthetically speaking or price-wise, you will still enjoy a superb driving position plus a considerably high standard of build quality.
