• An appeal by the West Yorkshire Road Car Co against the decision of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners granting Murgatroyd Transport (Summerbridge) Ltd a road service licence, was dismissed last week by the Secretary of State ' for the Department of the Environment.
The appeal was against the grant of a licence for a direct excursion service between Pateley Bridge and Elland Road, Leeds, with picking up points at Summerbridge, Dacre and Darley for the home matches of the Leeds United Football Club.
The appellants were prepared to seek a modification of their existing excursion licence to include a Picking up point at Summerbridge and an extension to Elland Road, and considered that they should be given the opportunity to provide the service in this way if it was thought to be desirable.
It Was considered by the Inspector, Mr J. R. Willis, that the existing services were not comparable with the proposed direct service; they took a longer time and were more expensive. He did not think that traffic abstracted from the appellanti was serious enough to stand in the way of the grant of a new. licence. The Inspector decided in favour of the Murgatroyd who had discovered a demand for the new service rather than the appellants who were the major operator in the 'area.
