Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Ferrymasters have started a new year-round service providing international road haulage facilities between the UK and Portugal.

The first southbound loads on this new service were shipped on December 12, using Normandy Ferries (P & 0 Group company) 1111; Dragon from Southampton to Lisbon, a convenient entry point for the whole of Portugal and the nearest port for many parts of Spain, including such important towns as Seville, Cadiz and Malaga.

Ferrymasters have established their own office facility in Lisbon, managed by Mr R. J. Brown. Quotations and rates for the new Portugal service can be obtained from the company's UK marketing offices situated at Altrincham, Leicester and London.

The Portuguese development is part of the company's biggest-ever expansion programme which includes the establishing of new subsidiary companies on the Continent.

The company, which is a member of P and 0 Transport Holdings, has recently acquired one of Belgium's largest road hauliers—Europe Express NV, which sends its 60 artics as far as Spain, Austria, Italy and Scandinavia.

New sales offices at Ferrymasters' Continental NV hq Berchem, Antwerp, have been completed.

Also in Antwerp are the operational offices of Ferryinasters' Continental NV at the Atlantic Steam Navigation Company's berth at 6th Havendock.

In Scandinavia a new depot for Ferrymasters AB at Gothenburg has been acquired. Ferrymasters Norge was formed some time ago to build up trade, and the premises of the Danish subsidiary, Ferrymasters AG, with head office in Glostrup, are being modernized.

The operations of Ferrymasters (Holland) NV have been supplemented by the acquisition of Rotterdam-based Interfor NV. Mr J. van Schijndel, director and gm of Ferrymasters (Holland) is also in charge of group operations throughout Continental Europe.

Ferrymasters SARL, with bases at Le Havre and Lyons, was incorporated on October 1 1970 and is allowing the company to take initial steps in French haulage. M Roland Reviriego, based at Le Havre, is in charge of operations in France.

Munich is the base for Ferrymasters GmbH, and three new Mercedes tractive units with full German licences form the fleet nucleus.

In Eire, the company has bought a site in the Dublin dock estate and work is soon to start on an office block and tertninal compound. Over the Border. in Belfast, the company took over offices and terminal compound in October; facilities include a 25-ton mobile crane.

Nor have things been slow in Britain. Ferryscot, for instance, bought a Kirkintilloch haulier. The company has been granted an 0 licence for 26 vehicles and 28 trailers. Grangemouth is the terminal for Sea-Land /Ferrymasters Scottish operations.

In England, J.R.E. Transport (Wigan) Ltd was bought early in 1970 and serves the North West.

Ferrymasters are to shortly establish an operational base at Leicester for the Midlands; meanwhile, Cosby is the hq.

And, of course, Felixstowe, as one of Europe's major container ports, is operational hq for the company; UK operations manager is Mr Ron Green.
