A BOUT £700,000 of the £6m. approved I-1 for liner trains was spent in 1964, said Mr. Fraser in the Commons. The Railways Board hoped to introduce the first experimental liner trains next summer, he said, and the investment for 1965 would depend on the date of introduction.
M.P.s pressed him to do what he could to see that the scheme was introduced, but Mr. Fraser hesitated. He had discussed the scheme with the chairman of the Railways Board, who was continuing his discussions with the unions, he said. He believed it was the chairman's wish that he should not intervene in those discussions at the present time—" if it seems necessary for me to 'barge in ' I will do so ".
