APROPOSAL for the experimental application of a speed limit on all European roads outside built-up areas produced disagreement among members of the road transport sub-committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, when they met in Geneva. The sub-committee are trying to improve rules governing pedestrian.erossings, and have submitted suggested regulations for the guidance of governments.

SWEDISH "NOISE LIMIT"

THE establishment of a "tolerable noise limit" is the aim of the Swedish Institute of Public Health, who have started a campaign against street traffic noise. Some 100 new types of vehicle have been tested, and used vehicles will be studied in the spring. It is hoped that a basic " noise rule" will be established by next summer.
