L'XPANSION of the wholesale fruit and
vegetable market was the reason for 'an application for a B licence for a 24tonner by Mr. C. B. Cain, North Market, Liverpool, before Mr. -A. H. Jolliffe, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, at Liverpool, last week. Mr. G. P. Crowe, for the applicant, said that whereas in pre-war days greengrocers collected their own goods from the markets, the current trend was for a haulier to make deliveries. Two customer witnesses and Mr. Cain gave evidence of inconvenience caused by the lack of haulage facilities. Mr. Jolliffc, granting the licence for operations within 10 miles, said that he had no hesitation in making a grant which was so obviously necessary.
BIG EXPANSION PLANS
AN expansion programme exceeding £5m., apart from normal plant replacement, over the next three or four years, is forecast by Mr. H. R. Moore, chairman of Associated Engineering, in his annual statement. He says there are no signs of a slackening in the demand by commercial vehicle manufacturers for the company's products. Competition at home and abroad is keen, and some prices are becoming difficult to maintain at an economic level.
