PIA B-LICENCE milk-collection vehicle was idle in the afternoons and could he employed then on other work. This was stated before Mr. W. F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, in Glasgow last week, when Messrs. Thos. Rae and Sons. Lockerbie, sought to vary the terms of the vehicle's licence so that farm produce and road and building materials could be carried up to 20 miles.

Originally the radius applied for was 30 miles and the firm had asked to be allowed to carry furniture, but the application was amended, Mr. J. Law, for Rae, said that their A-licensed vehicle was fully employed. Milk traffic had decreased. but more haulage for feeding stuffs and fertilizers was required.

For the railways and British Road Services, Mr. R. Brown said that there was no evidence of demand for transport for feeding stuffs. 1-us clients had adequate facilities.

Mr. Maxwell, local manager of Scottish Agricultural Industries, Ltd., stated that it was hard to find hauliers to do ahortdistance work between January-April, and the use of Rae's vehicle would be valuable. B.R.S. and other hauliers were fully occupied. S.A.T. expected a 20-per-cent. expansion of trade in the Lockerbie area.

Mr. Quin granted the variation, but limited Rae to carrying for Scottish Agricultural Industries, Ltd., within a radius of 20 miles.
