D USTPROOFINCi of s ch vehicles and equipment as 1N lorries, ambulances, my Tanks and half-tracks is a process of particular impo tance to Ets. 13eherman Dernoen S.A., of Mortsel-Antwerp, who specialize-in the renovation and reconditioning of Service vehicles for the Belgian Ministry of Defence and other N.A.T.O. forces. The equipment to be processed includes new vehicles which are so rusted that they must be treated before they can be put into service.

The company have opened a new factory equipped by Jenolite, Ltd., 43 Piazza Chambers, Covent Garden, London, W.C.2. This plant is used to treat all the equipment and parts handled by the company: The value of the tanks and chemicals is estimated to be 150,000.

A two-unit overhead gantry crane capable of lifting 20 tons runs the full length of the plant, and enables the components to be processed on the flow principle. The process is known as Jenolizing and includes phosphate coating in addition to derusting.

In the first operation, grease and paint are removed by immersion in• a tank containing. P.S.5. chemical, and the parts then pass to a tiled bay for power rinsing with cold water through Fin, nozzles at a pressure of 15 p.s.i. Heavy rust and scale deposits are removed in an H.S.R. (heavyscale-remover) tank and this is followed by a return visit to the rinse bay.

Finally, any remaining trace of rust is removed and the phosphate coating is applied in the R.R.N. (rust-removerand-neutralizer) tank. The coating is anti-corrosive and aids paint adhesion.

After any excess solution has been blown from the cracks and so on by compressed air, the part is dried by hot air and is given one coat of primer and two coats of finishing paint.
