Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAVING filled up all the gaps in its !range of goods vehicles, Albion Motors, Scotstoun, Glasgow, W.4, has now extended it to embrace the maximum-load class, by introducing a 15-ton rigid eight-wheeler.

This machine, which if based on the company's popular 12-13-tonner, is offered in two forms, either with an Albion 3.10-b.h.p. six-cylindered petrol engine or with a Gardner 6LW compression-ignition unit, the former being standardized. Thus .equipped, the chassis scales 5 tons 61 cwt., whilst, as an oiler, it weighs 5 tons 111 cwt. In either case, there is an ample margin for a substantial body, without the unladen-weight limit of 7 tons being exceeded.

Normally equipped with a four-speed gearbox, the chassis is offered, at extra cost, with five speeds, the highest ratio being an overdrive. Both the third and the fourth axles are driven, overhead-worm gearing being employed.

No fewer than five Dewandre vacuum cylinders are incorporated in the braking systems, one of which is used to amplify the force applied by hand. All the wheels are shod with 36 by 8 tyres, twins being provided on the driving wheels; the _wheelbase measured from the foremost axle to the bogie centre is 18 it 9 ins, and the body space afforded is just over 24 ft. .

01 high efficiency, the petrol. engine is the well-known high-camshaft type, having • bell-crank-operated overhead valves. With a bore and stroke of 41 ins. and 5 ins, respectively, it is rated at 48.6 h.p. The cylinders have. renewal. dry liners and the exlia.ustvalve seatings are inserted. . Magneto ignition is employed.

• A 'feature of the final drive to the two axles is that the worm and wormwheel gears have 8-in.. centres.

Application of the brake pedal brings into operation brakes on the four bogie wheels and the two leading wheels, the shoes being expanded by four vacuum cylinders of appropriately, proportioned

dimensions. A fifth servo cylinder actuates brakes on the four driving wheels, and, as already mentioned, is coupled up in the hand-brake system. There is a large vacuum tank.

The new model is designated T561, its overall length is approximately :30 ft. and the frame height, unladen, is just under. 3 ft. The distances between the centres of the front pairs and rear pairs of wheels respectively are 4 ft. 1 in. and 4 ft. 6 ins.
