TRUCK WATCH, THE regional freight crime reduction initiative. has been extended to the Yorkshire and Humber regions.

In November 2006, funding from regional development agency Yorkshi re Forward enabled Truck Watch to become a regional scheme, working with the region's Operators and four police forces (South Yorkshire. West Yorkshire, NorthYorkshire and Humberside), as well as Crimestoppers.

Other partners include the Humber Regional Assembly, the Road Haulage Association, Highways Agency. Vosa and Hull University Institute of Logistics. TruckWatch's Helen Parr says: "It is a membership scheme and a key activity is to notify member drivers about stolen vehicles or loads following a call to the police. In the first full year of operation, South Yorkshire Police crime statistics indicated that the theft of loads and vehicles fell by 66%
