Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mobil says its Cleanerb urn Diesel Plus could help vehicles pass the smoke test and give a marginal improvement in fuel economy.

The company has added a combustion improver to act as a catalyst: it says this will assist more complete combustion in the chamber, reducing smoke and fuel consumption while increasing power output.

Tests have indicated a reduction in black smoke of 80% with particulates down by 30% and hydrocarbons by 23%. Mobil says tests by engine manufacturer Perkins show a 3% increase in engine power which feeds through into fuel savings.

With more complete combustion, fuel injector nozzle fouling is halved, says Mobil, while cold flow protection has been increased from -15°C to -18°C.
