• Miller Industries of Atlanta, USA has acquired French recovery manufacturer Jige Lohr Wreckers. Miller's UK concessionaire is Welwyn-based World Wide Recovery Systems • Volumaker's modular kit bodies, which can be supplied For Iveco Daily, LDV or Mercedes Sprinter chassis, will be making their debut next week at Amsterdam's RAI exhibition. The Sprinter 412 show model will feature a redesigned rear section, giving a higher rear aperture to suit Dutch needs.
• New Lawrence David curtainsider trailers for international operator GSI Europa Express of Letchworth include a neat sliding roof option to speed up loading. Wear is minimised by using a series of plated support pillars which slide within the roof rails; they support the roof when engaged. Opening is at ground level via a hand-wind system in the corner posts.
• Ray Smith's Metroswap quick transfer vehicle body system can now lift swap bodies much higher than before, making transfer between light chassis and heavy truck/trailer combinations easier.
• Truck/trailer combinations with disc brakes all round have come a step nearer with the appearance of a prototype disc-braked Van Hod l trailer in Norfolk Lines fleet. Jointly designed by axle and suspension manufacturers SAF and Perrot, the PAN-22 S-cam actuated brakes are suitable for all 22.5in tyres on drawbar and semi-trailers.
